Easy Banana Chocolate Brownies with Walnuts

There are many recipes for easy banana chocolate brownies, varying in richness. But I like this recipe the best. It's so easy to make and yet the brownie you get is moist, fudgy, crisp on the outside and sort of underdone inside, with a beautiful hint of banana flavor..yum. The bananas also reduce the need to use more eggs for the brownies.

This nutty chocolate banana brownie recipe was given to me by aunt, which I since "modified" to make it easier and quicker to make, yet as indulging as a brownie should be.

Servings: 20 squares
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Bake time: 35 minutes

Instead of using a saucepan, ingredients can also be melted in the microwave.

Simply melt the butter and sugar in the microwave on moderate power, then stir in chocolate chips.

3/4 cup self-raising flour
1/2 cup butter, plus more for pan
2/3 cup caster sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips, divided
1 medium over-ripe banana, mashed
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1/4 teaspoon salt
Icing sugar and cocoa powder, optional, for dusting

1. Preheat oven to 325ºF/160ºC. Lightly grease a 23cm/9inch square shallow cake pan. Line with strip of baking paper to cover base and extend over 2 opposite sides of pan for easy lifting when they are done.
2. In a saucepan over low heat, melt butter and sugar, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in 1 cup of chocolate chip until melted and smooth. Set aside briefly until mixture is warm, not hot.
3. Lightly beat eggs in a mixing bowl. Stir in vanilla, salt, bananas. Add flour slowly, stirring until just combined.
4. Stir in walnuts and remaining chocolate chips.
5. Pour mixture into prepared pan.
6. Bake for 35 minutes, or until tester inserted into the center comes out slightly moist with mixture.
7. Allow to cool. Lift up the ends of the baking paper, and transfer the brownies to a cutting board.
8. Lightly sift with combined equal quantities of icing sugar and cocoa powder, if desired, before cutting into squares.

P.S. Do tell me how the easy banana chocolate brownie recipe turned out for you, so others can benefit.

This was delicious but my kids dont like walnuts so I subsituted it with 1/2 cup of crunchy peanut butter. Yum. - Peggy Vlismas, Australia

    Easy Banana Bread
Great recipe! I had two ripe bananas at home and wanted to use them right away, so I searched for ideas on the Internet. I found this recipe and decided to give it a try. Since I only had two bananas, I used only half of every ingredient (I added a dash of cinnamon) and baked it for half the time, too! It was so delicious!

Excellent! This would have to be the most delicious and moist banana cake ever! I used wholemeal flour instead and it was still unbelievably moist. Also, I baked it for 50 mins instead, then left to cool and that helped make it more moist yet not undercooked. This has now become a firm family favourite, thankyou!.

This might be my new favorite recipe! Plain, they are like mini, takealong banana bread bites! Delicious! Then I got creative, and dipped them in semisweet chocolate, then pressed a walnut on top and now they are an elegant cookie! I wowed my friends at our cookie exchange this year, but little did they know how simple it was! Thank you for the best kept secret I'll ever have in my kitchen!
